Penderyn Bourbon single cask, cask strength, 61.2%, $430
The unusual distilling process and some maturation in Madeira casks has given standard Penderyn a liqueur-like, perfumey quality many whisky fans don’t care for. This is a single bourbon cask bottling of the 11th cask the distillery ever filled, to mark its 10th anniversary, and is less cloying, less feminine, and more gutsy than the standard version. It’s also very palatable and of excellent quality. Some will make it to America, but the price tag will deter all but the most passionate.

wow, now that’s a smart way to promote your whisky – make it unaffordable! if it’s soo expensive it has to be good,right?
Still I bet peanuts against euros that the price-quality ratio is better in case of Hammer Head than in this case.
So how old does that make it?

Okay, it’s the eleventh cask they filled, so I guess I can grudgingly accept the price as justifiable. Almost. But why can’t they do a series of these at a price the punters can afford? Balvenie does, as does Four Roses. Ah, I guess that’s what we have IB’s for.
no i mean, it totally makes sense; the fact that’s the 11th casks they filled 100% justifies a $430 price tag…hmm…wait…no scratch that: it IS a stupid price.

Thanks for the link and an interesting story, indeed. I’ll likely look for this one by the glass on my next trip to the UK. I’m curious about the viscosity and am interested by the Welsh origin.
Excuse me? What am I missing here? How is this allowed to carry the Bourbon designation if it is single malt whiskey made and aged in Wales?
Is it allowable if read as “Single Bourbon Cask”? If so, doesn’t make sense. Does it say “Bourbon Finish” on the label? Will someone please be so kind as to ‘splain this to me? Thanks.
About a few months ago I got a SMWS bottling of cask strength 7 yo Penderyn matured in Madeira. The Penderyn has quickly become one of my favorites, with deep flavors imparted by the Madeira. I got mine for $85, not sure if you should pay that much for this particular bottling, but if you are partial to congnac cask Scotches, then you should definitely give the madeira a go.
