This 1998 vintage triple distilled Lowland Auchentoshan has been matured in fino sherry casks, which are rarely used for Scotch whisky maturation. The nose presents violets in fresh soil, honey, spice, developing citric fruit notes, and almonds. Quite full-bodied, fruity and zesty in the mouth. Lengthy in the finish, with spice, nuts, and oak. Becoming dry and gingery at the last. –Gavin Smith

Owing to its x3 distillation, Ralfy once described Auchentoshan as an Irish Whiskey, which was being produced in scotland– But Irish distillers don’t often release high proof whiskeys with bold high quality impact. Generally, I like these Auchentoshan limited releases. Though I’m not a big sherry guy, I’ll probably try to get a taste of this.
I think it is good, not great, and would have scored it similarly to Gavin. Nice review, Gavin!
i agree with everything red said. that was easy. thanks for doing all the typing red.
Any time JWC
I love the package! Beautiful and simple yet effective combination of bottle and label. Makes me want to taste it on that merit alone. Looks like a man’s whisky ( at 54.6!).
More like bourbon, in many ways, than scotch!
How come it’s more like a Bourbon, Sam?
The bottle looks to me more like a bourbon bottle than a scotch bottle. Just sayin’.
Hmmm I think I will have to at least try this one, it sounds quite nice.
I have not had a Lowland Scotch yet..gonna have to put Auchentoshan on my list.
Auchentoshan Classic, Texas– Auch’s limited bottlings stand tall on their proof, drinkability, and cask selection, but the Classic is the mainstream bottle that will take your understanding of the lowland style farthest fastest. It won’t blow you away, but it’s cheap, highly enjoyable and well suited to serve standard of comparison for other lowlanders.
