Duncan Taylor “NC2” (Distilled at Aberlour), 16 year old, 46%, $80
This whisky packs a lot of flavor. They’re clean, complex and well-balanced too. Creamy, layered, malty-sweet foundation ( vanilla, caramel, toffee), chock full of bright fruit (golden raisin, honeyed orchard fruit, currant), rounded out by firm, dried spice (cinnamon, nutmeg, mint) that dances on the palate. Long, warming, spicy finish. Nicely done!

This one sounds really good – We picked up two bottlings of a 14 YO from the cask there in March – one bourbon and one sherry and they were terrific – I really like Aberlour whiskies so have to search this one out!
The last time I was at Aberlour, I picked up a bottle of each too. I preferred the bourbon to the sherry cask. But one day I was tinkering around and added a small amount of the sherry cask whisky to some bourbon cask whisky and I like that even better.
When I was at Arbelour, I tried also to make a vatting from the bourbon cask and the sherry cask, but Wendy the Witch was on duty then and she told me it was strictly prohibited……

I’m with you, B.J. I visited in April and whilst I enjoyed the Sherry cask, the single cask ex-Bourbon was astounding. I had neither money nor space enough in my bicycle panniers so I will have to return at a later date.

Yes the Bourbon Oak is wonderful – I also picked it up because its rare to find a totally Bourbon Oak Aberlour – Was not disappointed
I am a big fan of Aberlour. I too picked up a bottle at the distillery (ex-bourbon (although it was a Jack Daniel’s cask) a few years back. So good. I just picked up this week a bottle of their 15YO Sherry bottling.
This one sounds really nice, decent price, and from a great outfit (Duncan Taylor.)
Are the NC2s in distribution yet? I have not seen them anywhere – the Glenlivet and this Aberlour sound great and at relatively attractive price points. I know alot of retailers and their importer have posed – so someone, please help us out.
They’re imported by Preiss in CA. I just got the sample a few weeks back, so I’m sure it’s in stock as of now. I can order it for you, but if you live in a no-ship state then I can’t get it to you.
I’ve seen NC2 here in Massachusetts (Table & Vine, West Springfield). I too love Aberlour ex-bourbon, and urge anyone visiting to fill one for themselves. Any note on casks with this one? “Raisin” hints at sherry.
Dark raisin would remind me more of sherry. I wasn’t picking this up.I don’t know for sure what cask this was aged in, but I was thinking more along the ex-bourbon line-or possibly a Spanish oak used a few times prior to this.
I was wondering that too. I’m not as crazy about sherried Aberlours as some folks– But a few months ago, I had one 17 yo bourbon casked from Black Adder and it was absolutely beautiful.
i’m pretty sure i’ve seen some from the series at blue max liquors in burnsville, mn too.

K&L in SF will order it for you as well, but we’re doing a private 19 Year Aberlour Cask Strength for less so we don’t want to compete against ourselves
David, as you have had a sample of this one, how do you compare the two? Is there a place in the cabinet for both?
david, i take it this is the 1991 19 yo single cask aberlour that is currently listed as being in the “main warehouse” on the k&l site. do you have a sense of when it will be in the hollywood store? i am going to be in los angeles for a week starting thursday, and since you guys don’t ship spirits to minnesota it’s an opportunity for me to snag a bottle.
Ours is in a hogshead so there’s no sherry influence. Definitely room for both. Depends on how much you like Aberlour.
