Sorry to keep you waiting…
Ardbeg Supernova (2010 Release), 60.1%, $130
Very dynamic, complex and powerful. Here’s what I’m picking up, in somewhat descending order in taste profile: leafy smoke, coal tar, mocha fudge with dark chocolate chips, smoked olive, peppered seaweed salad, fruit (lemon, lime), genever, brine-tinged grass, and (with some coaxing) floral notes (violet?). Compared to last year’s debut release of Supernova (the whisky with the lighter-colored label in the picture), this new one is certainly comparable, but I feel it’s a tad richer, with more leafy smoke and ripe barley. It also seems a bit more polished, less aggressive. I like it a little more than its predecessor (which I rated an 89).
Advanced Malt Advocate magazine rating: 90

Love those smoked olives!
damn.
i need this one.

Peat-power
Sounds salty– “peppered seaweed salad”! Really look forward to getting a taste of this.
genever?
I’ll slip into my clogs when I try this the first time. Can’t wait.
I will definitely need to stock up before its all snatched up and put on ebay…
John, the bottle you show from last year was the committee release, but there was also a regular release of Supernova with a different label. Did you try that one as well and/or do you know if there were any differences?
It’s the same whisky. That’s what they told me.
Agree with those who express the sentiment, “Can’t Wait!” I loved the earlier Super Nova (which had a green label in New Jersey, not the white)…and the Corry. Now have a couple of bottles of Roller Coaster, and I just love the peat — especially after the liquor store salesman said some people thought it was *too* peaty! I knew then and there that one was for me, and the taste proved me right! Thanks for the review, John…
I’ll definitely have to pick this one up. I missed the last one until it became the $300 limited-supply market. Unfortunately, we won’t get it HERE, but I’ll find one.
Drool…..
I’ve tried the Ardbeg 10 I just love the smoky flavour of it and I just love singlemalts and have tried a lot and can’t wait to try this. Please let me know where I can find this when its actually out, I live in long island(nassau county) NY, please let me know where I can find it….
I love it, but 10 year old is still my favorite whisky of all time
