The good people behind those fine Ashton cigars were nice enough to produce two different whiskies to go along with their cigars. You’ll have to wait until September, though, to buy them.
I tasted them when I was out in Chicago for WhiskyFest, but they are still designing the bottle. Both whiskies are from Bruichladdich. There’s an 18 year old (1992 vintage) and a 16 year old (1994 vintage). They are finished (additional cask enhanced) in Amarone wine casks. Informally speaking, I thought both tasted pretty good. They’re rich enough to stand up to a cigar, but also enjoyable without a cigar.
I’ll have more details (and more formal tasting notes) in the near future.

I believe the vintages are correct. That’s what I saw on the sample bottles. I just think we did the math wrong. Sorry about that. Nice whiskies, though.

were they of the typical lightly-peated Bruichladdich style, or a bit smokier like a Port Charlotte…?
They are the traditional “lightly peated” versions. Cigars are what will bring the smoke to the flavor profile, so this should work nicely.
Robert levin From USA started the brand name “The Ashton” in the year 1985. The Ashton is a premium Cigar made up of Dominican grown tobacco. Lets hope that these whiskeys will be upto the mark.
Will they be producing a combined set of a box which includes a bottle of whiskey and enough cigars to equal the drinking of the whiskey? I could be interested in getting a set like that as a present.
Nick, I don’t know. They let me taste their whiskies back in April at WhiskyFest Chicago, which I liked (and I also like Ashton cigars), but I haven’t heard back from then since. I’m hoping for the best.
